How it works

SendIt uses WebRTC to establish a direct peer-to-peer connection between the sender and receiver when a connection can be established.

  • Select one or multiple files.
  • Create a temporary transfer room.
  • Share the generated link or QR code.
  • The receiver opens the transfer.
  • The receiver reviews and accepts the files.
  • The files are transferred directly between the browsers.

Direct peer-to-peer

SendIt is designed so that the actual file contents are transferred between the sender's and receiver's browsers rather than being uploaded to cloud file storage.

Zero cloud file storage Firebase Realtime Database is used for temporary room information and WebRTC signaling. The actual file contents are transferred through the WebRTC connection.

Temporary by default

Transfer rooms are temporary. They expire automatically when they are no longer valid, helping prevent old transfer sessions from remaining around indefinitely.

Once a transfer is completed, its temporary signaling data is also cleaned up.

No accounts needed

There is no registration, password, or account required to use SendIt.

Open the website, select your files, share the transfer link or QR code, and transfer your files.

SendIt does not try to become another messaging, collaboration, or cloud-storage platform.

It is focused on one thing: making it easier to move files from one device to another.

A note about connectivity

SendIt works best when both devices have a stable network connection. Devices on the same Wi-Fi network are an especially convenient way to use it.

Because WebRTC connections can be affected by certain firewalls, NAT configurations, or restrictive networks, some connections may not succeed. In those situations, trying another network or retrying the transfer may help.
